Finally Flickr

Posted in Photography on February 7, 2010 by Lucas Dorward

So I’ve finally started uploading my images to Flickr.com. Its certainly a much more user friendly site to use rather than Virb.com so I will be able to update more often. Man, I’m such a newbie to all this website stuff.

So you should go to the photo set titled “Long Ago” to view the latest series from Liz and I. Had so much fun wandering around the beautiful Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura. Got some great shots.

Frilly Ghosts

So yet again, another victory with an impromptu photo shoot in the later hours of the evening. All we needed was a secret spot, a view of part of the city, moving cars and a strategically precise setting input into the camera, and ska’doosh…   great pictures. One of these days I should actually learn what the heck Liz is even doing with the camera during the setup so I can know what is going on.

Santa Barbara Art Museum

Yet another successful endeavor with Elizabeth to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. As you can see above, there were a wide range of pieces throughout, and it kept us thoroughly entertained and even provided us with an unexpected photo shoot opportunity. There was an amazing section with two displays by Diana Thater that everyone should go see.  Very unique and thought provoking. If you live in the area and are able to get excited about all sorts of art, then you should certainly take a trip out there.  And besides, there’s a Peet’s Coffee & Tea right across the street!

The Heinn Specialty Co…

…is the maker of a wonderful photo album I came across in an antique mall that was going out of business. I can’t seem to figure out when it was made based on the font used on the cover or the design of it.  And the pictures inside it (very few in fact) don’t really scream out any one decade either.  I absolutely love the stains and filth that have accumulated over the years. That appearance almost always shows an object’s history and makes me wonder whose hands have held it, or who it is in the pictures.  All I really know is that some pictures are from Illinois and some are from Ontario, CA and who made the album itself. It’s got some great photos of old houses, kids, and random structures, and then a little handful of some, what now look like, very minimalist nature shots.  I’ll be able to use these in something for sure. Anyway, great find. I’ll be filling the rest of the album with photos of my own.

Photoshoot!

picher

The title is exclaimed because that is pretty much what has entered my mind when the perfect moment for some photo taking has occurred.  I’ve been spending time with the beautiful and talented Elizabeth Estrada with her wonderful trusty Canon. Our adventures together have allowed us to experience running about rooftops, exploring many no trespassing areas, eating straight from the strawberry fields, picking wild walnut trees, staring down evil cows, narrowly escaping large spiders, building robots, finding an unnecessary obsession with rubber stamps, finding and wearing cool jackets, discovering great unknown locations in our own city, and finding out that Tab tastes just like Pepsi. Through all of this, many great photos have happened. Be sure to go to virb.com/bench to check out the newly posted photos.

Done.

albumart

My first attempt of any sort of legit ‘album’…. is done.

30 copies of 8 of my songs. I’ll be very picky about who gets one of these as I am focusing more on getting them to people of influence in music.

I need to thank Jenessa, Frank, Tara, Sagin, and Fred for lending me their voices for effects or singing.  Their voices added the right touch to about 4 of these songs. Things I couldn’t have done myself.  Especially thanks to Jenessa though for letting me “melodize” one of her original songs (last track on the list)

The quality of the music isn’t where I want it, but thats simply because of a lack of experience in mastering the tracks. So for that, my apologies. This is the best I can do with what I have to work with, and for that fact I’m proud of how it all turned out.

Enjoy!

EP? huh?

EP

So there is indeed a little “release”, I’ll call it to make it sound cooler, of my music.  Only about 30 cds will be made.  I hope to give them to those with an appreciation of the bizarre and unusual melodies.  Simply called “MrMelodist”, it will be available in a couple weeks.  Give me a heads up if you want a reserved copy and we’ll see what happens.  Haha! I’m making it sound so exclusive.  I’m even in the middle of a conversation that may give one of my creations a place on KCRW.  (fingers crossed!)

Go to www.virb.com/melodist to listen to some of them already!

One Week.

Posted in Life on August 9, 2009 by Lucas Dorward

So much has happened in one week. I’ve not lived at home, I’ve made a few great people, I’ve written a bunch of music, I’ve lost all my money in some crazy financial situation, I’ve cleaned up a pile of dog poop in the middle of a living room, I’ve watched 4 old movies I had never seen before, and now here I sit, capping off the week feeling completely exhausted from a very hectic day here at Peet’s Coffee and Tea.  I feel as though I should have learned something this week.  Or come out stronger or wiser now that the week has past.  Instead, I only feel drained. I feel like I didn’t use this week to get closer to a new buddy of mine before he goes back home. Now I’m back to the regular swing of things. This week was a nice change of pace, but I had hoped it would also serve as a stepping stone of some sort. Perhaps I just cant feel the effects of it just yet. We’ll see.

Music Madness!

Posted in Melodist, Music on June 17, 2009 by Lucas Dorward

So I’ve been going nuts on Garage Band and Logic Express.  I don’t have the funds for anything more than those programs, so as I’ve always done…  I’ve seen how far I can tweak what I’m working with with really great results. Unfortunately and fortunately, with any artist who continues to invent new ways to express themselves, I have had to stray away from the 100% vocal rule that I had made for myself.  Electronic beats, and light instruments and synths have found there way into this new wave of music that is on its way to the Melodist site.  I have posted only a couple new songs so far so that you all could get an idea of where I’m going.  Check it out!
